Student Presentation Awards

Student Presentation Awards are awarded each year at our annual conference for outstanding oral and poster presentations. During years when conferences are held virtually, the poster presentation award will be substituted with an alternate category (for example, 3MT). These awards recognize excellence in research communication and presentations are evaluated based on how effectively students communicate their research to the conference audience.

To be considered for these awards, student presenters must be current members of SCO-SOC and conducting research on any topic in ornithology. We encourage presentations in French or English. Students wishing to be considered for presentation awards should indicate their interest when they submit their abstracts for the conference scientific sessions. Visit the Meetings page for information about past and upcoming conferences.

Presentation Award categories are outstanding oral presentation by a graduate student (2 awards), outstanding poster (or alternate) presentation by a graduate student (2 awards), and outstanding presentation (any category) by an undergraduate student (1 award). Each prize is an honorarium of $300 (CAD). We welcome presentations on all stages of research, from proposals to completed work.
